Kathy Sharp and the residents at Consulate Court in Thornlie have raised just over $7000 in donations to Lifeline WA over the festive season with their Christmas lights display.

Kathy was driven to raise funds for Lifeline WA after she lost her cousin to suicide in 2014.

“He was obviously in a bad space that he didn’t believe he could come back from,” said Kathy.

“It was hard to understand as Allan to me was a stoic, happy go lucky guy who always had a smile and gave you a laugh and in my mind the least person I’d expect to take his own life.”

Kathy was excited about the donation total, knowing it will go toward saving lives.

“Not everyone has family they rally around, a lot of people find the festive season incredibly lonely,” said Kathy.

“The message of reaching out to your own and renewing relationships with loved ones is an important one and we hoped that by being a small agency for Lifeline WA via our Christmas Lights display, we would perhaps help people remember this.”

Lifeline WA Chief Executive Officer Lorna MacGregor is extremely grateful for the donations collected by Kathy Sharp and the residents at Consulate Court.

“The money will go towards training more Telephone Crisis Support volunteers to support people who call Lifeline’s 13 11 14 crisis support service,” said Ms MacGregor.

“Lifeline WA wouldn’t be able to do the work we do without the amazing fundraising efforts of people in the community such as Kathy and the residents at Consulate Court.”

The Shine a Light for Life campaign overall raised a total of $215, 000 for Lifeline WA.
