North Fremantle resident, Serena Wells will be swimming her way to work this Friday, on June 8 to help raise much needed funds for Lifeline WA. Starting in Rocky Bay in North Fremantle at 4.30am, Serena and a group of supporters will swim to where Serena works at the Sunset Heritage Precinct, Dalkeith, in waters topping 16 degrees.

Lifeline WA CEO, Lorna MacGregor, will also be braving the cool temperatures and paddling alongside the group of swimmers to help cheer them on and make sure everyone completes to swim safely.

“Swimming 11.5km is difficult in the best circumstances, but to swim in the dark and in winter, we couldn’t be more impressed with Serena’s efforts. I am looking forward to paddling alongside to support Serena and her team.” says Lorna.

Serena is a passionate supporter of suicide prevention and Lifeline WA and hopes that the Swim to Work will raise much needed funds for Lifeline WA to ensure they can continue to provide life-saving services to Western Australians in crisis.

After suffering from two fractured ribs earlier this year, Serena used the time off from her training to ensure she was mentally prepared for her upcoming Swim to Work and for her plans to swim the English Channel in September.

“I think the break was good for me as I’m now more fired up and motivated than before,” says Serena.

“We’re hoping it will take us about 3 – 3.5 hours, but it’s really hard to predict with the current.  So we’re giving ourselves some extra time,” says Serena.

If you are in crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, available 24/7. For more information about Lifeline WA and to donate, visit lifelinewa.org.au.
